Illustrations for the Hindu epic the Ramayana are on
show this summer in the British Library. Rama is a prince god,
incarnated as a perfect example of human life, who rescues his wife
Sita from the demon king Ravana, helped by an army of monkeys.
Every year pilgrims retrace his journey, and a reading of the
Ramayana is said to save hearers from sin.
